Glasgow City Council joins the 100 Resilient Cities programme and starts work on a £100 million waste water tunnel in the south of the city.

This is a great way to engage with community resilience if you are at a school in this area.  Start by having a discussion about flooding – what are the hot spots for flooding in your area, investigate the local area to find out what the local authority has in place to improve flood prevention and invite people like yourselves in to talk about it further.

Share this clip of the Shieldhall tunnel that Scottish Water are building – a 3.1 mile-long waste water tunnel in the south of Glasgow as part of the biggest upgrade of the city’s waste water network in more than a century.

It will run between Queen’s Park and Craigton Industrial Estate via Pollok Park and Bellahouston Park. Scottish Water say that the £100m tunnel will improve water quality in the River Clyde and its tributaries and reduce flooding issues at key locations.

Invite experts into the classroom to discuss this issue further and to organise a class visit to the various points mentioned on the virtual tour.
